SEOS, a leading global supplier of display and immersive solutions for simulation and visualisation have selected Canon’s XEED projectors to play a crucial part of a new portable flight simulator.

Three XEED SX6 SXGA+ resolution projectors were chosen because of their unique combination of seamless LCOS imaging and ultra-portability. The Gripen Cockpit Simulator is a two-metre radius self-supporting screen, which uses three XEED SX6 models to give a 160º x 40º field of view. The simulator made its debut at Aero India 2007, and will be taken to airshows and airbases all over the world, giving pilots and decision makers a first hand taste of the Gripen plane.

One of the key requirements of SEOS’s client, Saab Aerosystems, was that the flight simulator be portable enough to be flown across the world. “Transportability is becoming an increasingly important requirement within display systems,” said Sarah Minett, Chief Sales officer of SEOS. “The XEED SX6 was the perfect projector for our requirements – offering compact, lightweight portability and extensive connectivity. The exceptional quality of the XEED’s LCOS imaging helps provide a truly immersive experience.”

Canon’s work with SEOS is just one aspect of the company’s drive to work more closely with specialist providers, helping them to take advantage of superior Canon projector technologies.

Throughout the project, Canon product experts were available to ensure that the projector hardware and firmware integrated perfectly into SEOS’s systems.

Andreas Ladell of Saab Aerosytems was extremely pleased with the final results:  “We can erect and align the simulator in just one day – and it only takes half a day to dismantle,” he said. “The facility is changing the way we demonstrate the new Gripen.”
